 BEYER BROTHERS

It is a matter of pride or at least of excusable self-congratulation for successful business men to look back over their career especially when they have been the architects of their own fortunes, which, like a mighty river carrying on its broad current the commerce of the continent can be traced back and its source found to be a little streamlet, coursing down the mountain side. Some of the most gigantic enterprises of today have had just such small beginnings.

While it is not our intentions to write a minute and complete detailed history of the rise and growth of the large business interests of the gentlemen indicated in the caption of this article, yet in order to give a clear and readable account of the same, so that the public may briefly gather a fair idea of its importance, we will say that like most of the successful business men of the day, these gentlemen began the struggle of life in a very humble way.

The firm is composed of three brothers, J.F., C.C. and J.E. Beyer, they are unquestionably the largest and most extensive dealers in poultry of all kinds, game, butter and eggs of any firm in the State of Indiana. Their headquarters and largest packing houses are located at Warsaw, but they have large branches at Rochester, North Manchester and Monticello, and are also interested in houses in the same line in Goshen, Columbia City, Huntington and Logansport, Indiana. They pay the highest market price for poultry, butter and eggs and always in cash. They have a score or more of wagons which traverse the State, and virtually control the trade of the entire State in their line. This may seem a broad assertion, but think we are justified in making the same, when we state that they pay annually to the farmers, poultry raisers and butter makers of Indiana over one million dollars for their products. To say that North Manchester takes pride in having the firm of Beyer Brothers represented among her business interests cannot be gainsaid. The Beyer Brothers are all young men and are certainly deserving great credit for the manner in which they have conducted their business affairs. Their house in our city is under the management of Mr. C.C. Beyer who has proven himself in every way worthy of the confidence of our people.

Besides the large interests of this firm already spoken of they are the owners of the beautiful and popular summer resort, SPRING FOUNTAIN PARK, which is located on the shores of Eagle Lake one and one-half miles from Warsaw. Spring Fountain Park is without question the finest summer resort in the State of Indiana, it offers greater inducements to the pleasure seeker in the way of fine hotels, boating, bathing, fishing, etc., and for a smaller outlay than any other place in the State. The Messrs. Beyer Brothers have already expended over $50,000 on improvements in the last two seasons and expect to expend as much more the coming seasons. Nature seemed to have designed Spring Fountain Park for a place for pleasure. Its bountiful shade, pleasant walks, fine camping grounds, artistic scenery, pure and sparkling springs, all combine in making it one of the fairest spots beneath the sun. A place so beautiful that the Creator seems to have pronounced upon it His sweetest benediction.

Messrs. Beyer Brothers have placed two steamboats on the lake and have over one hundred row boats, fishing tackle, in fact an abundance of everything that will in any way add to the pleasure of their guests. Campers can be supplied with all the necessaries such as ice, milk, butter and cream, and that too at moderate prices. The grounds are lighted by electricity and the city by gas, and in the evening presents a very picturesque appearance. Building sites will be leased to parties wishing to build cottages at a very nominal price. A good many have already availed themselves of this opportunity, and a large number of neat cottages adorn the grounds.

Next season the owners will build a fine half mile track, and will try and arrange for a summer meeting of some of the noted trotting and running horses. The Knights of Pythias of Indiana have already decided to hold their State encampment at Spring Fountain Park, and judging from other large assemblages that have decided to make it their place of recreation. Spring Fountain Park for the season of 1889 will be the “Saratoga” of Indiana. We predict that when the people become acquainted with this beautiful place and the inducements offered by the generous owners, they will one and all when wishing to spend a few days of pleasure go to Spring Fountain Park. Remember there is no charge made for use of grounds to anybody, and everyone is made to feel that they are welcome.
