Do-It-Yourselfers Receive Help From Floor Covering

If you are a "do-it-yourselfer" when it comes to painting and wallpapering, you'll find a friend in Judy Clay, present owner of Manchester Floor Covering. It is not unusual to catch Judy in the midst of a wallpaper or paint project.

Manchester Floor Covering was started by the Luckenbill family in 1959. The John Hare Family purchased it in July 1969. Judy acquired the store in March 1972.

During the past year, the store has doubled the number of wallpaper patterns. Also, custom coloring has been extended so that about 2,500 colors can be mixed. The store now has many kinds of paint supplies also.

She has continued the same lines of carpeting but now stocks carpeting and has added more samples. Carpet installations are booked one week in advance. George Young from Winona installs the carpeting. He has had 19 years experience in carpet installations.

"Wallpaper has become a specialty of the store," said Judy. She has used both the pre-pasted and the regular paper and can readily give pros and cons of each of them.

One of Judy's concerns is that people get the most for their money. When they buy carpeting, she is interested in knowing where it will be used in the home. Judy then guides the customer to carpeting that will give the best service for the money.

Judy goes into the homes to measure. She assists customers with decorating advice if they desire it. "People seem to be happy with my suggestions because they usually come back to say they like it" she noted.

When the store was purchased, Judy went to work redecorating with paint and carpeting. Currently she is painting the exterior of the store. She likes to have decorating projects to keep in touch with the products in her store.
