NOTE: On January 12, 1838, Richard Helvey had signed promissory note to Daniel Stone for $350.00. Daniel Stone died on October 2, 1838. Henry Weirick, administrator of Stone's estate, filed judgment against Helvey for non-payment. [Wabash Circuit Court, March term, 1842; original papers found in Box 9, pouch 13 at the Wabash County clerk's office] A Sheriff's sale was conducted: "to sell the issues and profits of the said lands for a term of seven years and no person bidding for the same, he then offered by public auction as aforesaid the fee simple of said lands in all the state, right, title of the said Richard Helvey in and to the same and the said Mahlon C. Frame did then and there bid the sum of $394.30 and no person bidding more, the said tracts or parcels of land was in due form of law struck off and sold to the said Mahlon C. Frame for the sum of $394.30 he being the highest bidder and that being the highest price bid for the same."
