TRY TO BURN BARBER SHOP

There was an attempt made Tuesday night to burn the Forrest Baere barber shop on North Walnut street, which was formerly operated by Noah Naber, and sold by him to Baere a short time ago. The back door had been liberally sprinkled with coal oil and a fire started. it burned for a little time, charring the door and burning the door sill, but seemingly went out of its own accord without doing much damage. A careful search of the place showed that some one had entered the building by lowering the upper half of the back window. Two razors, one belonging to Mr. Baere and the other to Guy Slagle were taken, each being the brag implement of the owner. It is thought that a few cigars were also taken. It is evident that the work was done by some one familiar with the lace, for there were two bottles in the back room, one containing coal oil and the other gasoline. The gasoline bottle had not been touched, but the bottle coal oil had been taken outside and the oil poured about the door, the bottle then being thrown to one side, where it was found next morning. The back door was locked and braced, just as it had been left the night before, and this is evident that both entrance and exit were made through the window. A failure of the fire to burn spoiled the plan to destroy the shop. There are various theories, but so far not sufficient evidence to made any arrests.
