Billie Jane Strauss (1922-2004)
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on July 17, 1922; died on March 21, 2004. She married Donald M. Strauss in Wabash, Indiana, on June 19, 1949. In
addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Sarah "Sally" Krouse and Patricia "Patty" Grant, both of North Manchester; her two grandsons,
Daniel M. and Samuel R. Krouse, both of North Manchester; and her three
granddaughters, Sarah M., Leah S., and Emily E. Grant, all of North Manchester.
She was a Wabash High School Graduate, attended Stephens College in Columbia,
Missouri, and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1943.
Prior to moving to North Manchester, she was an executive secretary at General
Tire of Wabash. Billie was a homemaker and active community leader in North
Manchester. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she
was past president of the church council and a Bethel Bible Study instructor.
She was a member and State Province Officer of Tri Kappa and was a member of
Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was active in the Fine Arts Club of North
Manchester. She served on the Peabody Board of Trustees.
