Donald K. Gable (1921-2011)

Donald K. Gable, 89, North Manchester, IN died at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN.   He was born February 8, 1921 at Wabash County, Indiana to Arthur Eldo & Ada (Humke) Gable.  On November 14, 1943 he married Dorothy B. Gurley.  She died January 26, 2011. 

Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Judy) Gable, Elkhart, IN and Norman (Laura) Gable, North Manchester, IN.  One daughter, Rita Gable, Denver, CO.  Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  One half sister, Margaret Lambert, North Manchester, IN.  Two grandchildren, one brother and one sister are deceased. 

Don was a 1939 graduate of Chester High School and a lifelong farmer.  He was employed with Eagle Farms from 1936 and co-owner of Eagle Farms after his father's retirement in 1960. 

He was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, Farm Bureau, Wabash County Pork Producers and National Camper and Hikers Association.  He was a private pilot and traveled to all 50 states and to Europe.  He served two terms on the Manchester Community School Board from 1965-1973.  

Joint service for Donald & Dorothy Gable will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Timbercrest Assembly Room, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the assembly room.  Pastor Karen Eberly will officiate and burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, IN.  Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.
