Gus Kahn (1866-1947)

Gus Kahn died Thursday evening at 6:00 at the St. Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne after an illness of six months. The body was brought to the Bender Funeral Home and Saturday afternoon was taken to the residence of his nephew, Jean J. Oppenheim, where the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Rabbi Frederick Doppelt of Fort Wayne conducted the service and burial was in the Jewish cemetery at Wabash.

Mr. Kahn was a son of Marx and Barbara Newberger Kahn and was born at Huntington in 1866. His earlier life was spent at Huntington and Wabash, but in later years his residence was in North Manchester, although he was away much of the time traveling as a theatrical manager. The only surviving near relatives are the nephew, Jean Oppenheim, and the brother-in-law, Ben Oppenheim.
