Violet Reba Hartsough (1920-2010)
Violet Reba Hartsough, 90, of Timercrest Senior Living Community, North
Manchester, Indiana, died at 5:57 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Timbercrest
Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born January 9, 1920 in Kosciusko
County, Indiana, to Thomas J. and Elsie (Circle) Poland.
Violet married Daniel R. Hartsough on January 9, 1942; he died August 31, 1986.
She was a 1938 Sidney High School graduate and a member of the Manchester Church
of the Brethren. Violet was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed yard
work and her flower gardens. While most people were contemplating retirement,
Violet decided to get her first job. She loved working at McDonald's and later
Dairy Queen, both in North Manchester.
She is survived by her son, John K. (Ann) Hartsough of North Manchester; six
grandchildren, Jay (Nicole) Rosen of Lafayette, Indiana, Jon (Beth) Rosen of
North Manchester, Jama (Gary) Fry of Roanoke, Indiana, Rebecca Hartsough of
Denver, Colorado, Joel Hartsough of Golden, Colorado, and Craig Hartsough of
Niles, Michigan; seven great-grandchildren, Jayden Rosen and Jayla Rosen, both
of Lafayette, Kennedy Rosen and Dyson Rosen, both of North Manchester, Gunnar
Fry, Leah Fry, and Olivia Fry, all of Roanoke; and her son-in-law, James Rosen,
of Urbana, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Rosen, her
infant son, James Duane Hartsough, two brothers, Harold and Delmar Poland, and
her sister, Belva Drudge.
Funeral services will be held at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North
Manchester, on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kurt Borgmann
officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester. Friends
may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main
Street, North Manchester, and from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Timbercrest Chapel.
Preferred memorials are to Timbercrest Senior Living Community or Manchester
Church of the Brethren.
