Nancy Reed to Present Program on Peabody Family for NM Historical Society

On Monday, August 13 at 6:40 p.m., the North Manchester Historical Society will host Nancy Reed, who will present a program on the Peabody family:  where they came from, why they got into the furniture business, and what moved them to build the Peabody Home.  The program will be held in the Assembly Room of Timbercrest Senior Living Community, 2201 East Street.

Nancy has been the Director of the North Manchester Center for History since 2007, and is responsible for the exhibits, window displays, school programs, tours and volunteers.  She has been involved in NM Historical Society activities since the 1970s.  Nancy has been president, vice-president and treasurer of the Society, and coordinated the purchase and move of the Thomas Marshall House in the 1990s.   She was a featured speaker at the 80th anniversary of the Peabody Retirement Community in 2011.

Nancy was born in North Manchester and has lived here all her life, with a few brief exceptions.  She is best known in the community for her years of service as Town Clerk of North Manchester, first as an appointed deputy, then 26 and a half years as an elected official.  Nancy was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 1987, and was recently named Distinguished Alumna 2012 by the Manchester High School reunion committee.

The public is also invited to come to the Assembly Room at 6 p.m. for a meal prior to the program.  For those who wish to attend the dinner, reservations must be made no later than noon on Friday, August 10.  The cost of the meal is $7.50.  Reservations may be made by calling Mary at 260-982-1813 or Evelyn at 260-982-6777.  There is no cost for the program, which is free to the public.  All are welcome
